Free ebook – The Fast5 Diet
I just finished reading an *FREE* interesting 100-page eBook: The Fast-5 Diet and the Fast-5 Lifestyle. Its a good read, and I recommend reading it. In an earlier post, Intermittent fasting. A place for it in the paleo diet?, I proposed that going without food was a reality of life during the Paleolithic, and that we should do so intermittently.
Personally, I think that doing the ‘Fast-5′
- 1-day-on 1-day-off, or
- 2-day-on 1-day-off
is more healthful, and will probably allow one to reach one’s goal weight faster than continuous fasting. This is because doing so will prevent the metabolic rate from dropping too far. More importantly, long periods of fasting will cause too much muscle tissue loss, which inevitably results in a slower metabolism, already a problem that develops as we age. Why make it worse?Sure many people have benefited from the Fast-5 plan, but the reality is that when our ancestors ‘fasted’, it was always intermittent. That is the situation our genome remembers, and what our bodies are prepared for. That is what we should emulate for optimal health. The Fast-5 maintenance plan is more in line with Paleolithic reality, and I would rather recommend you follow that. On the ‘off days’, use my Carbs are not the enemy! Just get the timing right recommendations, and you will not only stay more sane, but lose more bad (fat) weight than muscle.
